Small traditional Opera house in narrow backstreets of Hongkou, Shanghai.
The actors perform everyday this opera that originated in the Jiangsu province. A lot of the actors originally come from there but had to stop performing during the cultural revolution under Chairman Mao. Many of them moved to different regions later on.
They apply their own make up and dress themselves in the tiny back rooms which are also living spaces for 5 of the actors.
